Cyberbear Registration Error Messages

The Cyberbear registration system will alert a student when a course request is denied. The following are Cyberbear error messages.

Campus Restriction

Students are admitted to specific campuses (i.e., UM-M, UM-COT). UMCOT students registering for Mountain Campus Classes must get permission from the UM-COT Dean. All other students must contact the Registration Center at 406.243.6077.

Course is Not Available for Registration at this Time

Either it is past the deadline to add or drop courses, or the course has been cancelled.

Class Restriction

The course is restricted to only a certain class level (i.e., Open to class level of senior). Students may get an override form signed by the instructor, although an instructor’s permission to override is never guaranteed.

Closed Section

The course is full. A student may obtain an override form signed by the instructor, although not all overrides are approved.

College Restriction

The course is restricted by college (e.g., Only open to students in the School of Business). Students may get an override form signed by the instructor, although not all overrides are approved.

Consent Required on Override Slip

Students must have instructor’s signature on Override Slip. Not all overrides are approved.

C/I on Override

Students must have instructor’s signature on Override Slip. Not all overrides are approved.

You Cannot Drop Your Last Class

Students must see personnel at the Registration Counter in Griz Central to drop their last class. That is, the system assumes that the student who’s dropping their last class is intending to Withdraw from the Term. Withdrawal paperwork is administered at Registration Counter in Griz Central.

Level Restriction

This course is only open to a certain level (e.g., Graduate Students Only). Levels are coded as such: Level 01 = Undergraduate; Level 02 = Graduate; Level 03 = Law.

Link Error: D8 Required

This course has a co-requisite section linked to a primary section. For example, BIOL 221, section 1 carries 4 credits. The student must select Section 1 and also select one of Sections 2 – 5 which carry no credits. The primary section is typically the larger, common lecture and the co-linked section is either a smaller lab or discussion section. When registering, the student must register for the primary section and the linked section at the same time.

Linked Courses Must All Be Dropped

When dropping linked courses, students must drop the lecture and the linked section (recitation, lab, or discussion) at the same time.

Major Restriction

This course is restricted to only students in a certain major (e.g., open to majors in BADM). Students may get an override form signed by the instructor, although not all overrides are approved.

Pre-Requisite Test Score Error

This error message applies to WRIT 101, English Composition. If a student does not have a writing placement exam score of “3” or equivalent from the MUSWA, ACT or SAT scores or has not taken WRIT 095, Basic Composition with a grade of D- or higher, s/he cannot register for the course. Alphabetical restrictions apply for autumn terms only (i.e., last names start with A-L).

Academic Status Prohibits Registration

In most cases, this error message is because the student is on Academic Suspension. If the student is in Good Academic Standing, check the General Student Record to see if s/he is an inactive student (IS).

Time Conflict with (CRN)

Two classes overlap in time.

You Are Not Permitted to Register at This Time

The student is accessing Cyberbear, but his or her registration time is not yet available due to class restriction or alphabetical grouping, or Cyberbear is not available. Check also to make sure that the student clicked on the appropriate term, as students occasionally incorrectly select the Law Semester from the pull down menu.

You Need to Readmit

Student needs to be readmitted to UM after being absent for two or more years, plus submit an updated medical history reporting form to Curry Health Center, or term selection is not correct.

Another Registration Session is in Progress for this ID & Term. Try Again Later

Two people are logged in to the same record at the same time, perhaps the student and advisor.

Override Slip Required with Consent

The course instructor is controlling enrollment in this class. Students may get an override form signed by the instructor, but overrides are not guaranteed.

Maximum Hours Exceeded

An undergraduate student is trying to register for more than 21 credits. Student may either choose to drop a course or pick up a “Maximum Credit Override” form and obtain the signature of their academic advisor. Not all Maximum Credit Overrides are approved.

Your PIN has Expired

A student needs to select a new six-character (numbers or letters) PIN. The new PIN cannot be the previous numbers/letters.

Your Web Access Has Been Disabled

The student has tried to access Cyberbear with an invalid PIN multiple times, resulting in disabled web access. The student needs to take a picture ID to the Registration Counter in Griz Central to have his or her PIN reset.

Invalid User ID or PIN

Students should use their 790-student ID number issued by The University of Montana. If the student cannot remember his/her PIN, s/he must show a picture ID to the Registration Counter in Griz Central to have the PIN reset. A student’s PIN is his/her birthday (MM/DD/YY) only the first time they access Cyberbear, at which point there is a prompt to change the PIN to another number/letter configuration. The student may also be entering the Advising Number in the PIN field.

Invalid Advising Number

A new advising number is generated for active students each semester during the academic year (no Advising Number is needed for Summer Sessions or Wintersession registration), which is why students need to see their advisors at least once during autumn and spring semesters.

You Have Holds

There are a variety of reasons for this error message. Some of the more common reasons are: missing or incomplete medical history form; missing SAT or ACT scores; financial aid repayment; Self Over Substance program participation; Dean of Students hold; missing shots MSMMR (2nd measles, mumps and rubella); Residence Life hold; Financial Aid holds; Graduate School hold; missing transcripts (Enrollment Services). Students should contact the appropriate office to take care of the hold.
