The University of Montana is committed to student success. Faculty and staff advisors are available to help students transition to college as they identify and work towards reaching their academic, career and personal goals. This guide offers students relevant and important information about UM’s support services (including advising), academic policies, and requirements. It is designed to supplement to face to face advising and enable students to connect to the resources they need.

It is important to understand that the ultimate responsibility for fulfilling UM requirements rests with the student. The University Catalog is the most important source for academic information which includes all academic policies, major curricula and course descriptions. The A Student’s Guide to Advising includes excerpts from the Catalog and supplements information found in the catalog and other University publications.

Academic advisors, both faculty and staff, assist students in finding the information needed in order to take an active role in achieving academic goals. Good luck and enjoy your college career.
