Limited English Proficiency Q and A

This Q&A document was compiled by a sub-committee of the Diversity Advisory Council  (DAC) to provide information regarding accommodations for students with limited English proficiency, including foreign students and some sub-populations of U.S. students. Legal research was performed by Lucy France, EEO Officer and DAC member.

TOEFL Equivalency Table

Students with an English language proficiency equivalent to:

  • 500-525 paper TOEFL
  • 173-193 computer-based TOEFL, or
  • 61-70 internet-based TOEFL

are eligible to take EASL 250 and 251.

Students with an English language proficiency equivalent to:

  • 526-579 paper TOEFL
  • 194-237 computer-based TOEFL, or
  • 71-93 internet-based TOEFL

are eligible to take EASL 450-451.
