Spring 2011 Orientation Information

Plans are underway for the Spring Orientation. It is being planned as a two day event, with assessments and general meetings on Thursday January 20th and advising and registration happening on Friday, January 21st. The message pasted below was sent to the Orientations list-serve earlier today. This may be redundant information for some of you. In the future, the Undergraduate Advising Center/Office for Student Success will be coordinating the academic sessions of Orientation. Throughout the transitional period, we’ll be sending messages both through the Orientation Programs and the UAC/OSS.

Hello from Orientation Programs and the Office for Student Success,

We hope that this email finds you happy and healthy, and you are staying somewhat warm despite this cold front! Spring Orientation for new freshmen and transfer students begins Thursday, January 20, 2010.  Students will attend general meetings and complete assessments on Thursday, and will need to meet with their academic departments on Friday, January 21. As always, the students expect the departmental meeting to be an opportunity to learn about the curriculum and unique options for their major. It is also a time for students to arrange a time for individual advising with a faculty member or peer adviser. Your individual advising appointments can follow the department meeting. For the Spring Orientation participants, we will not do any pre-registration of core courses.

Click here for the tentative schedule for the Spring Orientation Department Meetings for your review and confirmation (this is copied from last year’s schedule). We have not scheduled any of the rooms, so feel free to change the location and time and schedule them as you need. We do request that you keep the meetings sometime before 11 a.m. on Friday, January 21st.

Please confirm the time and location of your meeting for Spring Advising for incoming students to Karissa Drye via email or phone before Monday, January 10th (, x2332). We will send you a list of advisees the week prior to the program, so you are able to prepare for our newest members of the campus community. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Thanks and have a wonderful week!
